Heart of England Championships

A small entry from CJC juniors for this event but good performance across the board.

Oliver Baldwin,-50kg pre cadet, lost his first fight due to a
small mistake. He came back strong is his second contest, after going down 2 small scores he kept focussed and threw his opponent for a maximum score with just 30 seconds to go. He didn’t manage to secure a win in the next fight but he gave a good record of himself in a tough weight group.
Toby Roberts, -55kg pre cadet, won his first fight by controlling the match, biding his time for the right opportunity and then throwing his opponent for a maximum score. He also struggled to continue the winning streak and was defeated in the next 2 matches. Despite the loss Toby showed maturity in his fighting tactics managing to apply good pressure when he was down a score to get his opponent 3 penalties. A promising performance in this new weight category.
Ewan Tweedie, -60kg pre cadet, lost his first fight in ground work. He then battled through his second match winning by a 7 point throw followed by a hold down. He went on to lose his third contest.
Coach Vince Skillcorn reflected on the days performances “Although there were no CJC medals won at this competition I was very pleased with all of the boys who fought, they all tried to use combinations and techniques we have only recently started working on and showed maturity and kept focussed throughout their fights.”
