Slovakia Bronze for Chamberlain

Led by Head Coach Luke Preston, 5 of our CJC Elite team travelled to the Bratislava European Cup. The first day of competition was very tough with none of our lightweights reaching the later rounds.  All hopes were pinned on -90kg fighter Frazer Chamberlain to pick up a medal for the team on the second day of competition. After a career best 5th place finish earlier in the year at the London European Cup Frazer was hunting down his first European Cup medal.

Frazer looked focussed from the start of the day and held nothing back. His first opponent withdrew which led to a second round clash with the current French champion. After leading and coming close to finishing the bout Frazer suffered a narrow loss. He dropped in to the repecharge where he worked his way to the bronze medal match beating rivals from Hungary and Greece along the way. In the fight for bronze he faced Marek Lojkasek from the Czech Republic. Frazer looked relentless and convincingly won by ippon-first throwing his opponent and then holding him to finish the contest and win the bronze medal. He tweeted “12 European Cups entered no medals. Today I got one. Thanks to my fearless leader @LukePreston_CJC leading me into battle all day #chuffed”

Well done to Frazer for his determination and solid performance at the weekend. Members of the Elite Team will travel to Serbia and Finland European Cups later this month.
