Three Camberley Fighters Selected for World Championships!

Three fighters from Camberley Judo Club have been selected to represent GBR at the forthcoming World Judo Championships in Rotterdam, Holland. Sophie Johnstone under 52kgs, Sam Lowe under 78kgs and Karina Bryant +78kgs will all be part of the 14 strong GBR squad that attend the championships beginning on August 26th. Sophie Johnstone is the reigning British Champion and former Commonwealth Champion-already this year has she won bronze in the Tre-Torri international and placed 7th in the Bulgarian World Cup. Sam Lowe the winner of the gold medal at the Manchester Commonwealth Games also won bronze in Tre-Torri and a week later stormed to a gold medal in the Slovenia Open. Karina Bryant is Camberley’s most successful fighter-a triple Olympian, four times European Champion and holds six senior world medals. This year she has won gold at both the British Open and Tre-Torri and sealed her place with a bronze medal at this weekend’s German Open.

For Sam and Sophie it is their second World Championships and unbelievably this is the sixth time Karina has been chosen to represent GBR at a senior worlds. To have three fighters in a World Championship is a great achievement for the club. All three women train full time with the elite group at Camberley Judo Club that has produced many European and World medals alongside several Olympians. Best of luck to all the girls next month and they will certainly do themselves and the club proud.
