Camberley Judo Club provided the venue for a superb Winter Training Camp during the Christmas break for a group of advanced Juniors aged 10 to 16. The camp ran over 3 days, with all meals provided and players sleeping over on the mats. Head Coach Vince Skillcorn, assisted by reigning commonwealth Champion Sam Lowe, support Coach Tony Baxter, Olympic Lifting Coach Alan Hughes and Brazilian Jujitsu Coach Gary Howe, laid on a good range of activities which included randori and technique sessions, conditioning, weight lifting technique and form, Brazilian Jujitsu and games.
Amongst the highlights were the opportunity to practice with Camberley and GB International Judoka Nathon Burns, the infamous hill sprints and log carry in the nearby Swinley Forest, being caught in the Mother of all thunder storms whilst out running, and the look of disappointment on one of the girl’s face when she discovered that Gary (BJJ Coach) was in fact from Hampshire not Brazil!
