CJC ELITE TEAM UPDATE

A busy and successful month for our athletes has seen them travel literally around Europe and the World competing.

The British Open at K2 Crawley was a tough weekend for the Camberley Elite Team with success mostly coming from the older more experienced fighters. The only medal came from Lewis Keeble at -66kg, he secured silver whilst team mate Nathon Burns came away with a 5th place in the same weight. Frazer Chamberlain -90kg also just missed out on the medals and finished with a 5th.

Embarking on an intense phase of competition to improve his World ranking and gain selection for the upcoming World Championships Nathon Burns headed to Bucharest World Cup.  He won his first 2 fights to progress to the semi-final where he was defeated. He then dropped into the bronze medal contest, facing a Hungarian fighter he won the contest and claimed the bronze medal and more valuable World ranking points.

Next up was Tallinn World Cup, another good start for Nathon, winning 2 fights put him in the semi-final. Unfortunately he was unable to progress to the final and found himself fighting for bronze again. Nathon overcame his opponent from Italy, won the Bronze and secured yet more World ranking points.

Joined by Ashley McKenzie they next travelled to Miami Grand Prix event. Unfortunately for Nathon there was no medal for him at this stop. Team mate Ashley -60kg started off strong and made it to the semi-final where he was defeated by a Brazilian opponent. Bouncing back in the bronze medal match he beat the current European Silver medallist from Switzerland to claim the bronze.

Next stop will be San Salvador…to be continued….
