Lakeland Open- Saturday 10th August
Camberley had 3 young fighters in the Lakeland Open in Kendal and it proved to be a challenging day for all. In the pre cadets Toby Roberts moved up a weight to -55kg after only a handful of competitions at the weight below! He won 2 contests and lost 2 managing to beat the eventual gold medallist in the pools. He showed some good judo but just struggled slightly with the size difference. Also in the pre-cadets was Ewan Tweedie in -60kg. Due to a low entry however they combined his weight with the over 60kg group! Ewan showed improvement in his Judo against bigger players than himself and won 1 match out of 4 to take the bronze medal. Finally in the Cadets was James Preston Howes in -66kg, he lost 2 fights on the ground to good players, on to the next one!
Cadet World Championships- Miami
Sarah Hill was 1 of only 5 athletes selected to represent Great Britain at the Cadet World Championships. In a tough draw she convincingly beat an American first fight by ippon. Next she faced a Japanese fighter who was Cadet European Cup and Cadet World Championships silver medallist in 2011. Despite a determined effort Sarah lost by ippon and the Japanese went on to take another silver medal.
