Grand Prix bronze for Ashley McKenzie

The Elite players of Camberley Judo Club have begun their road to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games! The qualification began a week ago and players will have two years to collect enough points to qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games.

At the weekend, Ashley McKenzie travelled to Havana, Cuba for the Grand Prix event where he finished third place in the U60kg category. He started the successful day off by defeating Leonardo Merino (CUB). In the second round, Ashley narrowly lost against Eric Takabatake (BRA) which then saw the CJC judoka enter the repechage. McKenzie threw his opponent, Juan Perez (CHI) for ippon to progress in to the bronze medal contest, here Ashley overcame Artiom Arshanski (ISR) by waza-ari to secure 3rd place.

Ashley McKenzie will be in action again in two weeks time at the U60kg category in the Budapest Grand Prix joined by team mates Owen Livesey U81kg and Szandra Szogedi in the U63kg category.
