Junior British Championships- 13th & 14th October 2012

At the Junior National Championships in Sheffield we had 4 fighters ready to test themselves against the best in the country at the Ice Sheffield Arena.

Ewan Tweedie has been training with us at Camberley for some time but it was his first competition representing the club. Fighting in the -55kg pre cadets he had 2 fights but inexperience at this level meant no wins this time.

Next up was Toby Roberts in the -46kg pre Cadet section. Some good performances this year meant there was expectation of a solid performance from Toby and he certainly didn’t disappoint. Fighting well all day he battled through 6 hard fights and only a momentary lapse of concentration meant he lost in the last few seconds of his bronze medal match. A respectable 5th place earned and some tough lessons to reflect on.

Stuart Brown our -73kg D band fighter followed on the second day of competition; he had a tough day and won 1 of his 3 fights. Stuart will definitely be looking to improve upon this performance in January.

Last and not least was some girl power- Sarah Hill in the -63kg Cadet category looked like she was on a mission from the start of the day. She had 4 fights in all and only lost her semi-final fight in golden score against a reputable player. Sarah then went on to decisively win her bronze medal match by ippon.

So we finished the weekend with a 5th and a bronze medal, very well done to all of the Camberley fighters, let’s see if we can improve on those results in the re-run of the Nationals in January!

Following this weekend and recent performances from Toby Roberts we are pleased to announce that he has been selected to be part of the England Squad for the first time! He now joins fellow club mate Sarah Hill who has been on the squad since 2009. Keep up the good work CJC.
