Southend International Judo Tournament – October 2012

Four of Camberley’s up and coming mini warriors made the trip to Southend to experience the big competition atmosphere of this highly regarded International Tournament.

Competing in the U27kgs Yellow Belts category was Jack Baxter.  Jack performed respectably winning two of his four fights with some impressive Judo, only losing to two of the eventual medalists in closely fought contests.   Representing CJC in the U34kgs Yellow category were both Louie Baylis and Tom Kirk.  Louie made it to the final having won three fights with a nerveless display of controlled Judo  but was unable to overcome his last opponent and went home with a much deserved Silver medal.  Tom also won four fights with a mix of good standing and groundwork but narrowly lost his semi-final contest to the eventual gold medalist in Golden Score.  He added a Bronze medal to his growing tally for the year, which sees him head the Juniors Medal Table.  Last to fight in U42kgs Orange and above Category was Ben Baxter.  After a first round Bye, Ben found himself up against the No.1 seed and despite a determined effort came up short and dropped into the repechage.  From here a medal seemed a long way off but Ben won his next fight with a fine throw in Golden Score, his third fight on a unanimous flags decision and the Bronze medal fight with a hold-down having made a quick transition from a scoring throw.  A final tally of one silver, two bronze and a 7thplace from four fighters was a good return and all the boys did themselves and the club proud – well done!
