Camberley Judo Club members of all ages have been having success at recent competitions in the last month. On the senior front the elite team have been medalling around Europe. Tom Davis (Willesden) had a great return to international competition at the Slovenia European Cup. Tom defeated fighters from Austria, Italy and Hungary including a former world silver medallist to take the bronze medal at 81kg. Davis followed this up a week later with the gold medal at the Kent International at 90kg. At the London Open Danny Williams, Danny Finney and Frazer Chamberlain all competed at 81kg. All three men fought their way to a podium finish with Danny Williams taking the gold and both Chamberlain and Finney winning the bronze medals.

The junior team at the club also had success at the Kent International. Frazer Chamberlain took the silver medal and Danny Finney the bronze at 81kg. Sam Hughes was on good form beating some strong foreign fighters on the way to the final where he lost a close match to take the silver medal at 55kg. Lasha Lekishvili won 4 fights to finish with a respectable 5th place at 66kg.

At the cadet level Stuart Brown has been excelling at recent events in the 66kg category. Stuart won the silver medal at both the London and Nottingham Opens. In both events he won his three opening matches before missing out on the gold medal. At the surrey trials Stuart went one stage further winning all his fights to take the gold.

The youngest members of the club were not to be outdone and recently competed in the NHC “Red Belt Rumble” and the Surrey Youth Games having great success. At the Red Belt Rumble Camberley came away with four medals and two fifth place finishes. Gold went to Ben Baxter with silver medals being won by Toby Roberts and Amie Bench. Bronze went to Oliver Bergqvist and the two fifth place finishers were Oliver Baldwin and Nathan Fullard.

At the Surrey Youth Games Amie Bench and Robyn Bullimore battled their way to gold medals. Both Toby Roberts and Jonathan Finch took bronzes and Ben Baxter fought hard to place 5th. Also selected to compete for Surrey Heath from Camberley were Nathan Fullard, Samantha Sutcliffe, Lucas Durrant and Rona Bullimore.
