Sam Lowe’s gold in the Slovenian Open this weekend capped a very successful mini tour of Europe for Camberley Judo Club. Sam defeated opponents from Germany, Spain and Holland to take the title at under 78kg and the only GBR medal of the tournament.
The previous weekends tournament in Italy-the prestigious “TreTorri” event saw Sam Lowe and Sophie Johnstone win the bronze medals and Karina Bryant continue her gold rush with yet another international title. Sophie lost her opening match in the under 52kg category to an Italian but then defeated opponents from Tunisia, Belgium and Scotland to win the bronze. Karina won all four of her contests at +78kg by the maximum score with non going the distance. Fighters from Italy, Tunisia and Germany were dispatched in under a minute by the triple Olympian from Camberley.
On the junior front youngster Sam Hughes has been selected to represent England in the UK School Games. This is a great honour for Sam a former cadet British Champion and will see him fight the best opponents from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
This weekend fighters from the club will compete in the Kent International held at Crystal Palace.
