Camberley fighters to compete in Senior Worlds and Junior Europeans

Camberley Players to Compete in Senior World’s and Junior Europeans

September will see four of Camberley Judo Club’s elite team competing in major championships for Great Britain. First up is the senior World Championships held in Tokyo, Japan from 9th to 13th September. Danny Williams at 73kg and Karina Bryant at both plus 78kg and Open weight have been selected to represent the country. This will be Williams’s debut on the senior World stage after placing 7th in his European championship debut earlier in the year. Bryant, the British Olympic Association athlete of the year, will be looking to add to her record breaking twenty major medals including five silver medals at the senior world champs! Sam Lowe, British number 1 at 78kg and Sophie Johnstone, reigning British champion at 52kg, will unfortunately miss the championships due to injury.

Later in the month in Sofia, Bulgaria, the Junior European Championships will be held from 17th to 19th September. Tom Williams (Ford) at 81kg and Josh Butler at 100kg will be competing for GBR. Both men will go into the event well prepared from a six week tour of Japan and numerous international tournaments and camps.

At cadet level Stuart Brown has continued his gold rush with gold medals at the Eastern area Open at both 66kg and 73kg. He then followed this up with a gold medal at the Lakeland Open. These results are a great indicator for the cadet national championships held in Sheffield later in the year.
