Camberley Success at Awards and Competitions


Camberley judo club have had a successful month at both competitions and award ceremonies. On the awards front Karina Bryant has won the British Judo Association female player of the year award. At the Surrey Heath awards Sam Lowe won female sports person and Danny Williams won male sports person of the year. To cap off the evening the club’s elite team won sports team of the year.

In recent tournaments Camberley’s elite team has had great success. At the senior Welsh Open Vince Skillcorn at 73kg, Becky Dunning (Hardy Spicer) at 57kg, Tom Davis (Willesden) at 90kg and Josh Butler all took gold medals. Tom Williams (Ford), still a junior, fought hard to take the bronze medal at 81kg.

The following weekend at the Heart of England Open Camberley again emerged with medals in both the senior and junior sections. In the senior section Becky Dunning at 57kg and Tom Davis at 81kg won a second gold medal each. Ian Byrne at 60kg, Vince Skillcorn at 73kg and Danny Finney at 81kg all won hard earned silver medals. In the junior section Robyn Irwin at 63kg narrowly missed out on the gold medal and won silver whilst team mate Jess Black won the bronze medal in the same division. Stuart Brown has continued his run of medal success taking gold at the Lakeland Open and silver at the Devizes Open at 66kg.
