Camberley’s Sam Wins English Open

Camberley Judo Club’s Samantha Lowe won gold at this weekend’s English Open.  Sam won all of her four contests to take the gold medal. In the pool stages she defeated main rival and national champion Lindsey Purves in over time having dominated the match. Sam overcame Team Bath fighter Sian Wilson in the final through higher attack rate and was crowned champion.  In the last six months Sam has had great success winning the Finland Open and placed third at the GB World Cup. Camberley fighters Nathon Burns and Pete Lomax each won bronze medals at under 60kg and under 90kg respectively.  Both fighters performed well showing some skilful judo throughout the day.  Both Sam and Peter have now been selected to take part in a selection fight off to claim a place on the British Team for next month’s European Championships in Georgia. If they are successful they will join Camberley’s Sophie Johnstone who was selected at under 52kg last month. Camberley Judo Club is funded by Surrey Going for Gold and has several fighters training “full time” daily with the goal of representing GBR at the 2012 Olympics.
