Two Camberley Judo Club fighters, Sam Lowe and Sophie Johnstone, have been selected for a three week training tour of Japan with the British Judo team. The training trip will run from 30 April to 6 May with the first week seeing the British team train with the National team of Japan. The remaining two weeks will be spent training in and around the Tokyo area at prestigious Japanese clubs and universities. This is a fantastic opportunity for both women as judo originated from Japan and is still home to its strongest fighters. Commenting Sam Lowe said “Both Sophie and I are over the moon to get such a fantastic chance to train with the best in the world”. The tour is part of the British team’s preparations for the coming World Championships to be held in Holland in August. Both Sam and Sophie are looking to secure selection over the coming months. It is an exciting month for the judo club, funded through Surrey Going for Gold, as Sophie will compete in the European Championships in Georgia and other fighters from the club are looking for success on home soil in the British Open on 2nd/3rd May.
