London, March 2011

Menzies, one of Surrey’s largest firms of accountants and advisers to privately owned businesses, is to sponsor one of Great Britain’s elite judo athletes Tom Davis in the run up to the 2012 Olympics. Tom, from Camberley Judo Club, is the British judo champion and number one in his weight category, after his recent victory at the British Trials.

Tom who started Judo aged 6 in Willesden, chose to train full time at the age of 22 when he joined Camberley Judo Club. The club has been identified as a sports venue capable of winning Olympic medals thanks to its tradition of producing successful athletes. Since the club was formed, they have produced seven GBR Olympians, won three junior world titles, eight senior world medals and numerous commonwealth and British titles. The club is aiming to supply a quarter of the 2012 Judo Olympic team.

Tom was introduced to Menzies at the Farnborough Business Lunch Club at Pennyhill Park Hotel and Spa, Bagshot. This is a monthly networking group run by Menzies and attracts approximately 50 local businesses in the area.

Amanda King, from Menzies Blackwater office says: “Tom is number one in his weight category and in a great position leading up to the 2012 Olympics. The Camberley Judo Club is distinctive for being a local recreational club as well as an elite full time judo centre. They are a world class club but lack on funding, and we are very happy to help them as their ultimate aim is to create a new purpose built dojo training facility for the club.”

Danny Pecorelli, Managing Director of Pennyhill Park and Trustee of the Camberley Judo Club says: “Menzies sponsorship of Tom will be an enormous help in his journey towards the 2012 Olympics. Our aim is to align the business structure of the club with the success of its athletes and coaches. Charitable donations such as Menzies’ are vital for us to achieve the goals of the club and its members.”
