Three of Camberley’s Elite Team selected for London 2012 Olympics

Three members of the performance academy team at Camberley Judo Club were selected to Team GB this week. Danny Williams, Winston Gordon and Karina Bryant will represent their country at the upcoming London Olympics. With the Team GB judo team consisting of 14 players in total-to have 3 players based at the club in the team is a huge honour. A fourth member of the team, Tom Davis, is also selected as Olympic reserve-in itself a great achievement.

Danny Williams will compete in his first Olympic Games at 73kg. Danny is in great form just recently winning the bronze medal at the Czech European Cup and placing 5th in the European Team Championships with the GB Men’s team.

Winston Gordon will compete in his third Olympics at 90kg. Winston placed 5th at the Athens Olympics and the former European bronze medallist is looking to go at least one place better in London and bring home a medal.

The final member of Team GB judo from Camberley is Karina Bryant. Karina will compete in her fourth Olympics at +78kg and she has been Great Britain’s most consistent performer in the last decade. This years European bronze medal was Bryant’s 21st major medal-a record in Great Britain for men and women. Karina is planning on landing the biggest medal of all in August.

Head coach at Camberley, Luke Preston, has also been chosen as an Olympic coach so he will be there with them in London. Preston said ” I am extremely proud of all of our athletes that have been selected for TeamGB. It is a credit to them, their team mates, and everyone at Camberley that their hard work has paid off and they can compete against the very best in London.”
