Tom Williams (Ford) continued his domination of the under 81kg junior division at the North West Age Banded last weekend. Tom produced an array of stylish throws to take the title with all of his four fights being won by maximum points. Sam Hughes at 55kg won a well deserved silver medal with a gritty performance. In his semi final match Sam dug deep to dispatch his Great Britain squad rival with two big throws. The final was one step too far for Sam who succumbed to 2009 GBR junior number 1 Brandon Dodge from Wales. This was a repeat of the 2009 UK School Games final. This is a promising result for Sam who is still light for his weight division. Danny Finney could not repeat his gold medal success of last month’s Midland Open but still performed well to place 5th at 73kg. Danny dispatched three opponents to reach the semi-final stage. He lost this match and again for the bronze to finish in 5th. This weekend Camberley’s young fighters will battle it out with the best of Great Britain at the English Junior Open. Due to the cancellation of the junior trials in January this event will serve as a selection event for the GBR junior squad.
