U23 European Championships: Turner aims to be fighting for medal

There is no time to rest on the Old dean for the CJC elite team, and just as some players returned home from Mauritius, Aaron Turner is departing for Poland to compete at the U23 European Championships.

Aaron has been on the British squad for quite a while competing nationally and internationally, quietly working his way up the rankings. He was part of the GB team for the Cadet Europeans couple of years ago and is satisfied he has moved up to the next level: “I am really pleased that I have been selected for the under 23 Europeans, it not only shows I met the selection criteria but I feel it also reflects the amount of improvement I have made this year.” – Aaron explained.

Only three GB judoka met the criteria to qualify for the tournament. Aaron is already fighting in Rio Olympics qualification tournaments around the world gaining experience, but his real target will be to qualify for Tokyo 2020. AT: “Fighting at a tournament like the u23 European Championships will give me the experience of the atmosphere and settings of the big tournaments. Having said that, in my head I will treat it as any other tournaments I have been fighting in this year, taking one fight at a time, because thinking any differently will only lead to uneccessary pressure which can set me back not allowing me to achieve my full potential.”

“We have been working very hard at Camberley and to return home with a medal would mean everything to me, and it would be a way to return all the effort and time CJC coaches are putting into the athletes… I would like to thank Head coach Luke Preston as well as Vince Skillcorn and everyone at the club who supported me and helped me with my preparation towards this tournament.”

Aaron will be competing in the U66kg category on Friday, the 14th of November in Wroclaw, Poland.
