Welsh Open- Saturday 29th October

A busy weekend for Camberley Judo Club started with determined little team of CJC warriors arriving at the Welsh Institute of Sport ready for business. Stepping up to a new level of competition was Toby Roberts and Oliver Bergqvist in -42kg and -46kg respectively in age category B. Both young fighters exceeded expectation and Toby came away with a bronze medal and Oliver bagged the Silver. Well done!

In the Cadet section Sarah Hill -63kg was ready for action with her eye on the Gold this time after her bronze in Sheffield. Her determination paid off, 4 Ippon wins including beating Ellen Lewis the National silver medallist, and the elusive gold medal was captured. Following on from this steely performance in the older -18yr olds group was Stuart Brown in -73kg and at -66kg Lasha Lekishvili. Stuart faced tough competition again, he won one fight but lack of experience didn’t allow him to move in to the placings, however again learning invaluable lessons which I’m sure will pay dividends as he develops his into a senior player. Next up was Lasha, he certainly made his mark at the Cardiff venue, confidently dispatching of his 5 opponents to claim the gold medal. An impressive performance, well done.
